In 2022, the uncontrolled gender pay gap is 82 cents for every dollar that men make. Also, according to a survey by Equal Rights Advocates, the pay gap for Black women, Native women and Latinas is even bigger. Their pay gap is more increased compared to white people due to people from these groups are less likely to be promoted into senior level positions.
Although the pay gap is generally more common among women, men are also affected based on discriminating grounds. According to statistics of the first quarter of 2022, the results showed that black men earn 76 cents for every dollar earned by white men, and Latinos earned 75 cents.
In early 2022, the LGBTQIA+ advocacy group HRC Foundation found out that they earn about 90 cents for every dollar earned by non-LGBTQIA workers. This pay gap is more starkly by LGBTQIA+ people of color, transgender people and non-binary people. LGBTQIA+ Native American workers, for example, earn 70 cents for every dollar earned by a typical heterosexual employee.
According to a survey from Payscale, two thirds of respondents reported that pay equity is a planned or current initiative at their organization. Compared to 2021, it is an increase of 20 percent. Although it is positive that the numbers have increased, it is still too many companies that are not doing much, if anything, to identify and correct their internal salaries. In Sweden, there is a law on annual pay equity analysis, which requires employers to to detect, find solution and combat pay differences related to gender. It is a rewarding starting point for getting equal and fair salaries.
